THE HEART OF BIRTH "The following are stories and thoughts told to me by a Montana homebirth midwife named Brie.  She began talking to me one day and I was so fascinated that I have continued to ask her to tell me more of her insights and stories.  I have not met Brie in person; she came to me "in spirit" and I have lovingly accepted her wisdom."

You know when you feel emotions wash over you like a wave that engulfs you in the ocean.  It feels so good to just be a part of the flow, the motion.  That is what being at a birth is like.  This little being brings this huge wave of energy and motion and emotion, we all get swept up in it participating whether we are conscious of it or not.  It’s like being at the heart of a matter, so pure, so genuine, my heart just melts. What a gift, what beauty I am witness to over and over again! ***** Those who do not carry a child or experience childbirth can touch this beauty simply by loving the mother and child and participating in glory through observation and support of the process.  This energy is not exclusive to a mother giving birth; it is simply one way, one really beautiful way this love shines through us.   Watch a mother’s face light up when she sees with her eyes for the first time the babe as he takes the first breath and is lying on her chest – you will feel it inside, like a warm river gushing through you, melting away any vestiges of doubt, fear, and anger and you can choose to continue to feel that high, that love.  That love that brings tears and pink cheeks to the most serious of men.  Allow yourself to live in the birth within – always. ***** At a birth it’s like all these avenues open up lighted with tiny white Christmas lights and each possibility is fascinating, intriguing, exciting and yet calm and peaceful at the same time.  It’s like this baby brings all this with her – reminding us again of that simplicity, that perfect sparkle!

There is beauty that is forgotten sometimes when a woman has a baby.   She is incredibly beautiful and sensual and so it is a time for her to remember this richness inside and to love it and envelope herself in it, drink it all in, for this fertility, this creativeness that abounds is focused so gorgeously at this time, as a reminder of all the creativity and love available to us always.

It’s not just about a baby being born; it’s all about life and being here in the present, loving everything and feeling your heart.  The babies remind us of the simplicity of being in the present.  Their presence is enough to bring tears to the stoutest man and the softest touch from a hardened grandmother.   Allow your heart to be like that of a newborn babe.
